How To: Perfect The Pout

At Sacred Child Beauty, we praise all things lips. I am for sure a lip connoisseur. From spending a long ten minutes on just lip care to swapping lip shades at least twice a day, I can confidently guarantee that strutting around with plump, hydrated pouty lips will boost your confidence. Next to pearly whites, lips are the biggest contributor to an eye-catching smile and high “kissability.” 😉
We can all agree that lip injections and lip flips were and continue to be the “go-to” trend for enhanced, pouty plump lips in 2020 and 2021, shoutout to the Kardashians. However, the very first steps to eye-catching lips are lip care! Read on to learn my recommended lip care regimen, and product recommendations for hydrated, healthy lips.
This is the NUMBER ONE step to achieving a plump pout! Exactly like our face loses volume and color when it lacks hydration, so do our lips. The first way I can tell I’m not drinking enough water is when my lips start to dry out. Long story short, drink your water and reap the benefits! P.S. It’s the perfect excuse to purchase a cute water bottle. 😉
Other than regular water intake, hydrating your lips with moisturizers are key! Whether it’s Sacred Child Beauty’s hydrating lipsticks or a clear gloss, I always have a layer of moisturizer on. I recommend investing in moisturizers that include ingredients like vitamin E and/or C, unrefined cocoa butter, and hyaluronic acid for deep hydration!
There is nothing worse than having dry skin flakes on your lips and fighting the urge to pick at it. Don’t do it. I repeat, don’t do it. When your lips get dry and chapped, your lipid layer (a protective layer that retains a balance of moisture) becomes unbalanced, which is what causes skin flakes and peels. A lip scrub is the key element to removing chapped and dead skin, as well as rebalancing that lipid layer.
Good news? You can make your lip scrub at home with literally two ingredients. TWO. Mix together some coconut oil and coconut sugar and there ya go! Rub it onto your lip for about thirty seconds and let it sit for three to five minutes. Wash it off with a warm towel and slap on some moisturizer and SPF. Say hello to your baby soft pouty lips.
This isn’t the last time you’ll see SPF on my list of tips for keeping your skin glowing and wrinkle-free. Don’t neglect your lips when you put sunscreen on other parts of your face! According to Elizabeth Tanzi, founder and director of Capital Laser & Skin Care, the number one area of the body people skimp on sunscreen is the lips. Let’s change that. The skin on your lips, other than around your eyes, are extremely thin, making them more susceptible to sun damage. No thank you. We must avoid signs of aging at all costs. Layer on that sunscreen and avoid those wrinkles!
Face Masks:
Oh, Covid-19...What are we going to do with you? I don’t know about y’all, but my skin seriously suffered from wearing masks. However, I finally found my savior...silk masks. Unlike cotton masks, silk masks are cooling, naturally hypoallergenic, and won’t dry out your skin since they significantly absorb less moisture. Here is the link to my favorite silk masks!
