Celebrities Famous For Their “Imperfections”

I love a good success story, but specifically the ones that stem from self-love and acceptance. In today’s society, authenticity is taking over anything tied to societal norms and expectations. We have finally started to ignore what society has defined as perfect and turn towards individual inner and outer beauty. THANK GOODNESS! I am in awe of those who work with their uniqueness, make a name for themselves, and influence their audience to do the same damn thing! Here are some of my favorite celebrities who have (and continue to) embrace what some would call imperfections, with pride.
Winnie Harlow has a rare skin condition called vitiligo, which causes white patches on your body. Winnie Harlow has embraced her skin condition and is one of the most unique supermodels in the world today. From starring on America's Next Top Model in 2014, to walking the Victoria’s Secret Runway Show in 2018 and being the cover of many high fashion magazines. She encourages others with vitiligo to embrace your imperfections and uniqueness!
Meet Shaun Ross! He is a 30-year-old fashion model, actor, dancer and anti-bullying campaigner. He was the first international male fashion model with an imperfection called albinism. He has graced the stage of many major fashion runway shows of top designers, publications and campaigns. Shaun Ross initiated the “In My Skin I Win” movement to encourage others to learn self-acceptance. Check out his Albinism Awareness Campaign video and his Tedx video!
Stevie Wonder is an American singer, songwriter, musician and music producer. He is known for being one of the most influential songwriters in history and is well-known for his unique use of instruments. He just about does it all! What makes his accomplishments even more impressive is that he did all of this blind. Shortly after his birth, he developed a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity, which was the cause of his blindness. Today, he is one of the most highly awarded musical artists with 25 Grammy Awards under his arm, and he has been inducted into a number of Halls of Fame.
Peter Dinklage is a famous American actor who is perhaps best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game Of Thrones. Peter Dinklage was born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. He has embraced his unique condition, however, demands not to be treated differently. He has refused to accept any acting roles that typecast him because of his height and inspires others with any unique condition to take a stand against those who treat them less equally. With his contagious charm and pure raw talent, Peter Dinklage’s career has truly taken off.
These famous celebrities are a small handful of the many individuals who have made a successful career for themselves by embracing their uniqueness. They rose above whatever bully or self-doubt they experienced (or still experience, today) and made a name for themselves, which is what I hope and encourage every individual to do! Embrace your uniqueness and concur!
